Prescription Drug Monitoring Program

Sponsor: Holly Rehder, District 148 (R) of Scott County

Recommendation: Oppose

Requires the Department of Health and Senior Services to establish and maintain a program to monitor the prescribing and dispensing of all Schedule II through Schedule IV controlled substances.

Missourians overwhelmingly supported data privacy by nearly 75% last August. The governor's agency recently turned over the list of Missouri's CCW permit holders to the Federal Government. Large business and government entities, some that may afford far greater security than Missouri will ever have, recently suffered security breaches and loss of private data.

Reasons to desire government not undertake this project are many and we oppose the Missouri Legislature's attempt to create another database to hold our private prescription information, a clear violation of principled, limited government.
