Richard, Ron
Primary tabs
Senator Richard received a B- rating on our scorecard for the 2016 legislative session.
Sen. Ron Richard serves as the President Pro Tem of the Missouri State Senate.
Sen. Richard is the consumate realist; his pragmatic, sometimes gruff approach to leadership has produced results. In 2015 Sen. Richard set himself apart from his predecessors by giving Senator Bob Onder an unprecendented 39 hours of floor time on a religious freedom amendment and broke the democratic filisbuster by moving the previous question early in session. He went onto steer the Senate towards productive legislative session.
Sen. Richard was elected to the Senate in 2010 to represent Dade, Jasper, and Newton Counties. He previously served in the House of Representatives where he became the Speaker of the House. Ron is the first Missourian to achieve the top leadership post in both legislative chambers, first as the Speaker of the House and now as President Pro Tem of the Senate.
He and his wife live in Joplin where he has worked as a businessman. They are the parents to two adult children and have four grandchildren.
