MAF Applauds the Missouri House for Passing HCR57

Ryan Johnson

Jefferson City – MO Ryan Johnson, President of the Missouri today issued a statement on the passage of HCR57, the Convention of States Project by a vote 105 to . Convention of States Project calls for a convention of under Article V of the United States Constitution with the intention of reining in the Federal Government. The Missouri House of Representatives passed

“Reining in the overreach of the federal government is a top priority. The states can and should assert themselves within our federalist system to force the federal government to balance the budget now and bring to heel runaway deficit spending by amending the Constitution. The Missouri House of Representatives has taken an important step towards restraining Washington D.C.’s overreach by joining with several other states in calling for a convention. I am grateful for the leadership of Paul Curtman and Eric Burlison on this issue” said Ryan Johnson, president of the Missouri Alliance for Freedom.

The federal government has overreached its constitutionally-established boundaries and has its hands in almost every area of our lives. Article V of the United States Constitution allows us to call a Convention of States to restrict the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, to return the power to the states and citizens thereof. Article V requires that 34 states pass similar to identical resolutions to call a convention of states on the same subject, before the meeting will be called. A grassroots organization in over 40 states has been built to support this endeavor.

“Washington D.C. is broken but the Constitution offers a solution bigger than the problem. By joining together the states can amend the Constitution and remind the federal government that it was the states that birthed it not the other way around. Government should be the servant not the master. It is time to restore the balance.”
